Copywriter for Female Entrepreneurs: 5 Things To Consider Before Hiring
I’m not going to lie.
I’m not just a copywriter for female entrepreneurs. I’ve had heaps of success writing copy for businesses led by men.
However.
I prefer working for women. Not only because there are still slightly fewer women entrepreneurs (42% in 2023), and I wanna see them all thrive, but because we just get each other.
And I personally believe you should kiiiinda be BFFs with your copywriter.

5 Non-Negotiable Traits Every Copywriter for Female Entrepreneurs Should Have
They believe in Community Over Competition
Genuinely, how are women who are afraid everyone is stealing their ideas still in business?
A smart copywriter conducts competition research. But, we don’t do it to one-up others in your industry.
We do it because we’re responsible for making your online presence stand out.
Which means we won’t try to replicate what your competition is doing.
Instead, we’ll tell you:
Hey, Peer A offers this, and Peer B offers that. Here’s what I think we should add to your copy to make you stand out.
There’s room for everyone in every industry. And your copywriter helps you understand your special “sauce” so you’ll never feel like a small fish in a big pond.
P.S.: This special sauce can even create relationships with others in your industry!
2. They like research
Not only are they going to interview at least 3 of your past clients, but they’re also going to do:
Competition analysis (just to help you fill the gap in your offer!)
Keyword research (more on that in a sec)
Brand voice deep dive (they’ll be able to write exactly like you that you’ll start to wonder if you somehow wrote your copy in your sleep)
Voice of Customer (VoC): Your copy isn’t just about you. Your copywriter will find and understand the language of your people so they won’t hesitate before buying from you.
3. They’re relatable
You’ll know you found your perfect-fit copywriter if a convo with them reminds you of catching up with a friend.
Listen: you don’t always have to click with the people you hire.
But your website designer and your accountant aren’t responsible for understanding you so deeply that they can practically write your next journal entry.
Having a copywriter as a female entrepreneur who can relate to you is going to make the outcome of your copy so much more seamless.
4. They’re multi-passionate
This isn’t a hard and fast rule, so don’t come for me fellow copywriters!
The cool thing about most of us copywriters is that we’ve written copy for a butt-load of different industries.
Some of them we’ve loved working on , while others have taken almost every inch of our sanity (let’s just say I’m no longer a fan about writing on dental topics).
However, having the experience of writing for multiple industries has given us the know-how on what NOT to write from one industry to another.
It teaches little nuances of adapting voices for each industry. For example, when to use empathy vs empowering words.
5. They’re honest
I know what you’re thinking,
“Yeah, Tiffani, like I was really going to hire a copywriter who's also a pathological liar. 🙄”
But here’s what I really mean:
An honest copywriter will tell any female entrepreneur if they are:
New copywriters (don’t judge them on that; you’re probably getting a hella good deal because they’re 100% undercharging).
Inexperienced in your niche (but they’ll learn how to adapt to your voice/industry).
Outsourcing any work (such as hiring an SEO specialist or having their VA interview your clients).
What’s the #1 skill your copywriter should have?
Being buddy-buddy with a copywriter is fun and all, but if they don’t have this skill, you might want to look elsewhere (or hire this person first):
SEO
In 2023, I had around 5 copywriting colleagues come to me for SEO strategy because their clients had rebranded (new design & copy) and ended up losing all of their traffic.
That’s when I realized there was a huge gap in the market.
As an SEO blog writer, I guess I just assumed copywriters would include an SEO strategy for their website copy clients?
Apparently, that’s not the case.
So, I spent some time and dollas to learn sales copywriting and created my new service: SEO Copywriting.
SEO: A holistic strategy to bring traffic to your website.
Copywriting: Establishing brand voice and using sales psychology to help convert the SEO traffic into leads or sales.
For clarification: I wrote weekly educational blogs for clients to bring traffic/establish authority, while my copywriter friends wrote phenomenal copy for Home/Service/About pages to prime their clients for sales.
Hiring an SEO copywriter is going to give you:
Awesome copy
More traffic
Passive leads and sales
