My Flodesk Review: Comparing Flodesk vs MailChimp vs Kit vs Klaviyo vs Mailerlite vs Constant Contact
Alright, listen up!
*hoists pants like a cowboy who just spotted trouble on the horizon*
As a website copywriter, I’ve tried and test many-a email marketing platforms ‘round these here parts.
And I gotta say— Flodesk takes the cake EVERY. TIME.
Listen, when I’m looking to spend money, it takes me approximately 3-6 months to make a decision. In between, I’m doing (probably too much) research by looking at things like comparing:
Price
Features
Other people’s opinions
So… I went ahead and did all of that for you.
This is my Flodesk review.
(hey, that rhymed)
p.s.: This post contains affiliate links, which may earn me a small commission that I’ll use to travel to New York, stay in a moody little loft, and finally write the next New York Times bestselling psychological thriller. Or, if no one trusts my opinion, I’ll just print out a picture of New York and tape it to my wall next to my unpaid bills and crushed dreams.
What is Flodesk?
The best email marketing platform.
Duh.
Seriously, any time I see someone on social media ask which email platform to use, I’m like… Flodesk is the only correct answer.
No other— I repeat: NO OTHER— email marketing platform offers UNLIMITED SUBSCRIBERS for NO extra cost.
The whole pay-as-you-grow that other email providers use?
I’m not building a business to be small.
And I sure AF don’t want to pay for being more successful.
Unlimited subscribers is what sold me on Flodesk.
(p.s. this post contains affilaite links so I may get a small commission)
The TLDR is this:
Flodesk is an email marketing platform you can use to build an email list.
Building an email list means you’re not competing for attention on social media—your “content” (aka emails) goes straight to their inbox. (will they or won’t they read it? a read-or-delete as on-again-off-again as Rachel and Ross).
But is Flodesk the best option for your business?
I’ll tell ya in sec.

Is flodesk free?
Nope.
Okay… not 100% true.
Flodesk is free for 14 days. That’s it.
The stuff you care about in this review:
Flodesk Price: $38/month (or $35/month when billed annually) for UNLIMITED subscribers. You can also use two different emails. So, for example, I use one Flodesk account for my hobby blog emails and for Your Creative Content emails.
Features: Scheduling, automation, integration with Canva and GIFY and Interact, workflows, pop-ups, landing pages, e-commerce sales through Stripe or Shopify.
Best For: Creative entrepreneurs, bloggers, and small businesses seeking a flat-rate pricing model with unlimited subscribers and a focus on design aesthetics.
Downside: Flodesk is a newer company so it’s slowly building out it’s in-depth analytics (like click heatmaps) and complex automation workflows (like conditional splits based on purchase behavior and multi-branch A/B testing)
But is there anything BETTER than Flodesk?
The fact that people aren’t immediately going to the only platform that’s:
✅ Cheap, and uniquely offers
✅Unlimited subscribers
Made me question it.
I needed to know.
So— I compared them all.
Flodesk vs Mailchimp
🏆 Winner: Flodesk
I want to start off by saying ALL of these email marketing platforms have free plans.
We don’t care about that.
The stuff you care about in this review:
Mailchimp Price: $20/month for 500 contacts, $45/month for 1,500 contacts, etc, etc
Best For: Small to medium-sized businesses looking advanced reporting.
Features: Email builder, scheduling, automation workflows, landing pages, pop-ups, audience segmentation, A/B testing, 250+ integrations (including Canva and Shopify), CRM tools, analytics, e-commerce tools.
Downside: Mailchimp’s pricing can climb quickly as your list grows, and some users find the automation builder clunky compared to more modern tools. Support for free plans is also veryyyy limited.
Mailchimp is what I used back in 2016 when I started my first blog because it was THE email platform to use.
And it was hard AF.
Creating emails on Mailchimp is like starting your first website on WordPress.
You’re going to hit a LOT of roadblocks and tech issues.
Flodesk vs ConvertKit (aka Kit)
🏆 Winner: Ooof. This is a tough one.
The stuff you care about in this review:
Kit Price: ACTUALLY FREE for up to 1,000 subscribers. Holy moly, that’s insane. Creator starts at $29/month.
Best For: The creatives. Bloggers, authors, content creators, and course creators looking to build audience relationships and sell digital products.
Features: Landing pages, sign-up forms, sequences (automated emails), automation rules, tagging and segmentation, integrations with things like Circle and Canva, digital product sales, simple builder, run a paid newsletter (neat).
Downside: Fewer design/customization options for emails. Automation is functional but basic. Lacks some visual campaign data other platforms provide.
Honestly… probably Flodesk’s top competition.
As someone with digital products who is considering hosting her SEO Storytellers membership on Circle… I love the fact that it integrates with Circle without having to use freakin’ Zapier.
You can also run a paid newsletter which is cool and kinda saves you from having to start a Substack.
Idk, what happens after you reach 1,000 subscribers on Kit, though?
Are you really going to go through the hassle of moving your subscribers to Flodesk when you inevitably switch, so you can have as many subscribers as you want?
Just to save yourself $35 bucks a month?
Prolly not.
Flodesk vs Klaviyo
🏆 Winner: Flodesk for service providers. Klaviyo for e-co
Klaviyo Price: LEGIT FREE if you have 250 contacts or less. You can send 500 emails and have 150 SMS credits; starts at $20/month after that. It has this sliding scale so it’s weird.
Best For: E-commerce businesses needing personalized, behavior-driven email and SMS marketing.
Features: Advanced segmentation, automation flows, predictive analytics (pretty sweet), SMS marketing, product recommendations, click heatmaps, A/B testing, 350+ integrations with Shopify/WooCommerce/etc., pop-ups, multi-channel campaigns.
Downside: Steep learning curve for beginners and the pricing can rise fast. Overkill for non-ecommerce users.
I have used this for my client’s luxury jewlery business.
I already knew how to use Flodesk so learning another platform was kinda like ugh—but Klaviyo is the best option for e-commerce.
Yes, even over my beloved Flodesk .
And yes, even though you can integrate Flodesk with Shopify— but that’s something you have to test for yourself.
I can’t do it all— damn, Jackie!
Flodesk vs Mailerlite
🏆 Winner: Flodesk
The stuff you care about in this review:
Mailerlite Price: Free (up to 1,000 subscribers); Growing Business plan starts at $9/month for up to 500 subscribers
Best For: Freelancers, bloggers, and small business owners looking for simplicity, affordability, and clean design.
Features: Email builder, scheduling, automation, pop-ups, landing pages, surveys, A/B testing, basic ecommerce integrations, digital product sales, forms, drag-and-drop editor, Canva integration.
Downside: Limited customer support on the free plan, fewer advanced automation features than ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo. Design options are simpler, which can be a pro or a con depending on your needs.
Okay, so far Kit, Klaviyo, and Mailerlite are the only email marketing platforms that are 100% free for up to 1,000 subscribers.
Out of the 3 of those, Kit is probably the one I’d go with if I truly couldn’t spend a dime on email marketing.
I’d choose Klaviyo if I had an ecommerce biz. Maybe Flodesk.
Mailerlite do be having a shit ton of integrations, though.
Flodesk vs Constant Contact
🏆 Winner: Flodesk
The stuff you care about in this review:
Price: Starts at $12/month for 500 subscribers, $30 for up to 1K subscribers, etc, etc
Best For: Small businesses wanting all-in-one marketing, including events, social media tools, and SMS if you need to text your people.
Features: Drag-and-drop builder, scheduling, automation, event management, surveys, sign-up forms, social media posting (Later, who?), ecommerce integrations, list segmentation, pop-ups, analytics.
Downside: Less intuitive UI and limited automation compared to platforms like ActiveCampaign or ConvertKit. Customization and design flexibility are more limited, and feature updates can be slow.
I’ll be real with you. I’ve never personally used Constant Contact or used it for clients.
The fact that you can schedule social media posts can save you $17 bucks a month on scheduling tools like Later, though.
My Final Flodesk Review
Okay, I was clearly a massive fan of Flodesk at the start of this blog.
But after my research… I get why people use email platforms like Kit and Klaviyo.
Here are some things I wish Flodesk had (or at least what would make it the ULTIMATE email marketing platform):
Heatmaps: So we can see where people click the most or when they stop reading
More integrations: Like with Circle!
Social media posting: Maybe? Idk it’s not a huge deal-breaker for me personally as someone who doesn’t rely on social media to market my biz.
A/B Testing
Built-in SMS
Still, Flodesk is sooooo easy to use! Like, compared to Mailchimp and Constant Contact?
I’m also one of those people who, once they find something they like, they stick with it forever.
So… do with that what you will.
Best Email Marketing Platform for YOUR Type of Business
For e-commerce: Klaviyo, hands down.
For content creators: Flodesk or Kit (depending on your budget)
For service-based business owners (on and offline): Flodesk
For local business owners: Flodesk or Constant Contact
For bigger businesses ($500K-$1Mil annual revenue w/ team of 5+): Hubspot
Other Email Marketing Platforms You’re Probably Considering (That I Don’t Have an Opinion About)
HubSpot: Usually used by larger businesses or B2B companies that need robust CRM, marketing automation, and sales tools all in one (and have the budget to match).
Brevo (formerly Sendinblue): Usually used by service-based businesses or European companies who want email + SMS in one place, with solid GDPR compliance features.
Omnisend: Usually used by e-commerce shops looking for a simpler, lower-cost alternative to Klaviyo with solid automation and SMS/email integration.
ActiveCampaign: Usually used by online businesses and tech-savvy marketers who want advanced automation and CRM features—without needing the full complexity (or price tag) of HubSpot.
Listen, I love Flodesk because I love simplicity.
But I can understand if you have a business that runs events that you might want to use Constant Contact vs Flodesk or Mailchimp.
Which one do you think you’re going to use? And what features do you wish Flodesk had?!
