How a VIP Day Transformed This Wedding Planner's SEO Strategy and Website Copy
If there’s one thing I know nothing about— it’s wedding planning.
Okay, so I was in my (now ex 😬) boyfriend’s sister’s wedding as a bridesmaid.
And I did single-handedly put together my best friend’s (first) wedding.
(Thanks to the Hilton Garden Inn in Fort Myers for unknowingly lending me their tables, chairs, and chafers— hey, I was their banquet captain, and they underpaid me! Also, they didn’t care).
Oh shit— and I did help plan my sister’s wedding. Well, what little she would let me do.
Alright, so maybe I have soooome experience.
But I could never do what you do, girl. Hats off to ya.
You do a LOT of work. And the last thing you need to do is worry about posting on Instagram to get clients.
That’s exactly what Summer was thinking when she reached out to me to ask if I did SEO for wedding planners.
And I said, of course I do, Summer. I’m practically a wedding planner myself.
Just kidding. Here’s how the convo actually went down:
The Problem:
Like most business owners, Summer, founder of Local Revival Wedding & Design Planning services, came to me intrigued by the idea of getting clients without having to post on social media.
But like most business owners who are trying to scale their business, she had a few other concerns as well. For example, she:
Is considering approaching her website like a coach to highlight pain points, benefits, and testimonials
Loves her branding but wants to improve copy and design
Working with a coach to revamp her packages and process
Struggling with spam and low-quality leads, feeling lost among other planners
The SEO Strategy I Built for Local Revival
Here’s the thing: SEO is the ultimate way to attract clients without the constant hustle.
I sat down with Summer to map out her business goals and understand her ideal clients—couples looking for a wedding planner with a personal touch.
Together, we built an SEO strategy that would rank her website on Google and speak directly to the needs of her dream clients.
Step 1: Businessverse Mapping
I began by doing in-depth competitor research—analyzing their keywords, pricing, and what was included in their packages.
I call this Creating Your Businessverse (basically, it’s like Marvel’s multiverse— except instead of superheroes, it’s an Offer Suite for your fans…I mean clients).
This was the first time I realized that packaging is a huge problem when it comes to rebrands.
And yeah, you can hire someone else to help with that. Or you can just use a copywriter who already needs to research your ideal client. But most copywriters don’t offer that.
(I do, though. I do 💍)
So, I decide to help Summer fine-tune her own offers and pricing by researching her competitors and her ideal client’s wants and needs (by reading through reviews, Reddit posts, and social media comments).
See? She didn’t even need that coach!
Step 2: Keyword Research & Copy Audit
Before I could write her copy, I needed to know which of the thousands of keyword variations I should target for her “Money Pages” (these are her location-specific service pages— the ones that are actually going to bring her leads… and money).
I dove into research to find keywords that had a good chance of ranking without too much competition.
Keywords like “wedding coordinator Wilmington NC” and “wedding planner Tampa Florida” became our goldmine.
I then worked with her to slightly tweak key pages of her website, including:
Homepage
About page
Florida wedding planner service page
Wilmington NC wedding planning service page
Her portfolio page
Step 3: Blog and Social SEO Strategy
We didn’t stop with just her sales pages, though.
I gave Summer 3 months’ worth of blog ideas (12 total— so it could technically be a YEARS worth of ideas) so she could build a library of SEO-optimized blog post outlines focused on local keywords.
These blogs were designed to attract people who were still in the early stages of wedding planning.
More blog posts = more chances to rank = more organic traffic.
And because I can never just DO THE ONE THING I WAS HIRED FOR, I created a new SEO-optimized Instagram bio and social SEO plan to further boost her online presence.
The Results? A Website That Actually Works
Fast forward two months after we submitted her updated pages to Google Search Console, and Summer’s site was already starting to rank for top-of-the-funnel keywords.
This means her website was appearing at the top of Google when couples were searching for terms like:
wedding coordinator Wilmington NC
wedding planner Tampa Florida
Florida wedding planning
Now, instead of chasing clients, Summer was attracting them. Her website was working for her.
How We Transformed the Website Copy
Before we got to work, Summer’s website copy was good, but it didn’t pop.
It was too formal, too vague. Here’s a peek at the before and after:
Before:
“Working with us ensures your wedding is organized, visually stunning, and surrounded by guests who feel taken care of, leaving you no choice but to soak in every moment and celebrate with those you love!”
After:
“We’re all about those personal touches, like ordering a custom wedding topper that looks like your pups or finding luxury linens in that perfect shade of cream.”
The after version paints a clearer, more emotional picture. It speaks directly to what Summer’s ideal clients want:
Personal, unique, and unforgettable weddings.
That’s the magic of SEO copywriting—SEO brings you passive traffic, and the copy makes my clients money.
