Goals to Set For Yourself for the Rest of 2020

goals-to-set-for-yourself

If you’re like me, you probably had goals set for yourself this year.

Then the pandemic happened.

36.5 million people have lost their jobs in 2020, and the numbers just keep going up. If I had waited just one more year to finally quit my bartending job to start my own business, I would have been screwed. I would 100% would have been let go.

While I’m thankful to still have a job in such an aberrant time, it hasn’t been without struggles. In March when Florida was ordered to quarantine, my business was only 7 months old. I had big plans for myself this year! I was prepared to get out of my comfort zone and make it in my first year as a business owner.

If only I new how difficult it would be.

However, instead of looking back on the last few months and fret, I decided that for Quarter 4 of 2020, I was going to set new goals for myself so that I can still hit my goals by the end of the year. These are going to be short and sweet goals that I think you’ll be able to achieve, too.

Let’s get into it.

My January 2020 Goals

Let me tell you what I originally had planned for 2020. My biggest goal was to get out of my comfort zone. That meant going to networking events and investing in a photoshoot.

And to be honest, I was off to a great start in the beginning of 2020! In February, I went to a brunch meetup hosted by a local group called Babe Crafted. Babe Crafted is a networking group of women from all walks of life with an array of talents (photographers, event managers, CPAs, virtual assistants, you name it).

After the first meetup, I was hooked and I purchased a monthly membership. In just a few short weeks I had committed to showing up to Babe Crafted’s digital and local networking events!

I even went to a Tuesdays Together meetup in February (maybe early March) and vowed to go their monthly get-together so that I could meet like-minded entrepreneurs.

Getting out of my comfort zone? CHECK! ✅

About two weeks after those networking events, quarantine began in Florida. Like almost everyone, I assumed it would last a month or two and that by summer, everything would be back to normal.

Of course, that’s not what happened. And because I couldn’t get out and meet new people, I started to panic.

How am I going to get new clients?

So, I dove into what is now called The Blogger’s Journal.

My End of the Year Goals

The  idea for The Blogger’s Journal came to me about a month after quarantine happened. As more people were losing their jobs and starting to working from home, I wanted to come up with an affordable solution for aspirating (and established) content creators who needed to make a residual income because they had been furloughed or laid off. My $500 blogging and social media packages were not that solution.

The Blogger’s Journal is a $20 monthly membership for creators who need a place for

  • Accountability

  • Writing Prompts

  • SEO knowledge

  • One place for all their content creation needs

I really had no idea what I was doing when I first thought of the idea. In May, I brought on 8 beta testers to tell me what they thought of the product.

Only two people gave me reviews. And they were not the greatest.

So for the last 3 months, I have been digging my heels into this project and I’m going all in. And now that I have a clearer path of which route I want to take for my business, I know what goals I have to set in order for the launch of The Blogger’s Journal to be success.

It’s hard to set goals for yourself when there’s so much chaos going on in the world.

But, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look ahead. For the rest of 2020, I plan on:

  • Doing a second round of beta testers with established bloggers

  • Running ads and offering freebies

  • Posting consistently on social media with giveaways, creator features, and useful content tips

  • Showing up

Goals to Set For Yourself for the Rest of 2020

If you think things are tough right now— trust me, I know!

As content creators, we tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves to get everything done. I don’t know about you, but I’m also a perfectionist. So if something isn’t 100%, it doesn’t go live.

But that’s not realistic, is it?

This list of goals is as much for me as it is for you. Here are some tangible goals that you can set for yourself for the rest of 2020:

1. Schedule Your Social Media Content

The only way I know how to show up on social media on a consistent basis is by getting ahead. And the only way to do that is by automating your posts.

I use Later for this and I will never recommend any other publishing platform (I’ve tried them all). I use it almost exclusively for Instagram, but I’ll schedule a few Facebook posts a week there as well.

Being consistent is so hard, especially when you’re expected to post 3 times a week on multiple platforms, show up on Instagram Stories, and make video and blog content. By automating or scheduling your social media with Later, you can use your time more wisely— like being on IG Stories and engaging with your ideal follower.

2. Learn That New Thing

When it comes product launches, I’m not expert. But because The Blogger’s Journal is so important to me, I have been spending late nights researching how to have a successful launch.

I’ve learned a lot of new things; from creating Facebook ad campaigns to developing an intricate timeline of content for my launch. It has got me all kinds of pumped up for the official release date! (if you want to know when that is, sign up here!).

So one goal you need to set for yourself for these next 3 months is to learn that new thing you’ve been wanting to try. Whether that’s video editing, Reels, Tik Tok, or something like playing the piano— go for it.

Not only will continuing your education keep you on your toes, but it helps ensure that you’re an expert (or an influencer) that always has something timely to say.

3. Take One Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

I booked my first photoshoot for this October.

*internal screams*

I don’t know if ready I am for it, but it needs to be done. And I’m determined to actually enjoy myself.

The last goal you need to fulfill by the end of 2020 is to take one step out of your comfort zone. It doesn’t have to be anything major; as long as it’s something that will take you one step closer to achieving your ultimate goal.

If the idea of doing this thing makes you feel uncomfortable, that’s a pretty good indicator that it’s something you need to try.

Are there any goals you want to set for yourself for the rest of 2020? What are they? Let me know in the comments below!
